Is living together the same as being married?

Without the actual marriage.

Example, my SO and I have been living together for 5 years, together for 7.

First year we lived together was the hardest, but things are settled now we have routines, know what the other wants or would do.

So when I heard a comment that "everything changes after you get married," will that apply to me? Or just those who aren't living together?

It doesn't necessarily change YOUR relationship, but it DOES change things. It changes your relationship with his family and his family's with you - it changes his relationship with your family and your family's with him. It changes your relationship in the eyes of the law - especially if you live in a community property state, have children, etc...

So things do change, but not necessarily your relationship dynamic or anything like that.

Absolutely not! Marriage is a commitment before everyone (judge/minister/God). Living together is just roommates with benefits. I'm not knocking those who aren't married but if you wanna get married, get married. Don't play house and pretend. It's not the same thing. And it definitely makes light of the real marriages that go on everyday

My now husband and I were living together for almost 8 years before we got married and it Is different. Daily life isn't different but the bond you have and how you view each other is different. I never thought it would be different but it is.

Once me and my husband got married I felt like things got better. Everyone had a new level of respect for us and took us more serious if that makes sense. That's really the only thing that changed

Depends on how much of your lives you expose to one another. When you're married, money and family get involved. Taxes, life insurance, kids, birthday parties, etc. some people don't share all that even after seven years together. But if you're both totally open books and engrossed in each other's lives, then it won't change.

The only thing that changed was my last name, we only had to pay for one health insurance account, banking got easier and in case of emergency we were each other's legit emergency contact. Honestly unless you put that outside stress on the relationship nothing changes 😃

Once you have that "piece of paper" it's not as easy to just walk away and call things off. It doesn't make things easier just because you are married! Things have changed for my husband and I since we got married in August. We were together for 5 years before we got engaged and another 2 years later we were married, we were 16 when we started dating! Things are different now, just knowing that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me, gives me goosebumps to think about!

I can't see how a piece of paper and ring is gonna change my relationship when we already love together, we already have our life 'planned' (as much as you can plan life lol) his family loves me and accepts me as family.
