Alcohol and breastfeeding?

Is it strictly a no no like during pregnancy? Or is there a certain amount I can drink that won't get passed through? I'm obviously not going to do anything that will harm my baby in just asking becuase my mum bought me this champagne for the night the baby is born, I would just want a small glass!

The day you have your baby is too soon in my opinion. Their bodies are not developed enough to process alcohol until they are 3 months old. After that, for every drink you have you wait one hour to breastfeed. You can have 1 drink like a glass of wine and still breastfeed and be fine. The amount of alcohol that gets passed into the milk is very very small but can still be harmful to a baby under 12 weeks old. I've done a lot of research on this. The "if you can drive you can breastfeed" thing is true. Meaning if you can LEGALLY drive, not physically drive, your blood alcohol level is below 0.08 then you are safe to breastfeed. Which is usually 1-2 drinks. Also, if you are feeling buzzed it is best to wait to breastfeed until you are no longer feeling the effects of the alcohol.

Three lactation consultants and my dr said if you can drive you can breastfeed. So for me that's 1-2 drinks.

You honestly probably won't even feel like drinking. I definitely didn't. I was so tired all I wanted was food and sleep! Alcohol was the last thing on my mind.

Lactation consultants told me you can have 1-2 drinks and still breastfeed. Basically if you are good to drive, you are good to feed. A small amount transfers into your milk but it metabolizes at the same rate as in your blood. So once you are no longer buzzed you can feed baby.
