Should i get an epidural??

I'm scared of the needle and I herd you can't hold your baby after birth if you have epidural, is it worth it?! I've been thinking of natural birth lately!!

Ok so here is a couple things: 
A) it is completely untrue that you can't hold your baby after birth. Whoever told you that was flat out lying. I have had three epidurals. All three I held my babies directly after they came out.

B) they will do what is called a "straight cath", which means they will insert a cath and drain you bladder, then take it back out. You won't have a long term cath.

C) once they turn the epidural off, it usually only takes a couple hours to wear off and you have movement of your legs again. It isn't instant, but it usually isn't a really long time either. They get you up and walking as soon as they can.

Of course you can hold your baby straight away. That's completely false. Honestly birth plans are unnecessary because you can't anticipate how it's gonna go till you're there. I wanted all natural but literally had every drug known to man as my girl was back to back and the pain was excruciating. Then ended up with a c-section. Hoping for vbac and no meds this time but we will just have to see. Know what you want but be willing to be flexible and don't beat yourself up if it doesn't all go to plan.

My true. I held my baby immediately. She never left me. Just for my hubby to hold while the epidural was taken out. Baby was always with me

An epidural is designed to numb you in the lower part of your spine so you obviously cannot feel anything in surgery! If, when you are out of theatre you cannot hold your baby, then it was not done correctly. 
The recovery process may be much longer, but it really has to be down to you and how YOUR labour goes. Good Luck xx

I would like to follow this post. I am dealing with the same things. I have heard with an epidural you have to have a cathoder and can't move for quite a while. I am trying to understand what happens with both. I have also heard a lot of people say that they loved the epidural.

There are some hospitals which do a "paradise" epidural which is one where you can still be up walking around. Talk to your doctor and see if that is an option. I've had an epidural for all my babies this will be my 4th. I HATE (pass out from shots) needles but I beg for that one 😂 I know my pain intolerance and I get awful back labor so you'll have to make the decision that's best for you. All my babies were immediately put onto my belly and I was able to try to latch all but my first baby (as he had breathing issues and was taken to the NICU). Catheter was no big deal. I've had great experiences with my epidurals...also I've learned...for myself...I tell the anesthesiologist that I don't want to know what they're doing since they usually tell you as they do each step. That makes it worse for me so before they start I tell them just do it and DO NOT tell me what you're doing. Also knowing my needle anxiety, if you're in a learning hospital, I specify I do not want someone who's new. Same with the person who inserts the IV, no one ever gets a second shot, you can't get it the first time get me someone who can.
