Is a blood test at 4 mo normal?

My doctor told me to get my blood drawn to test for spina bifida. I looked it up and it look like the test tests for other stuff too? Did you take this test and did your doctor explain this well? I didn't know about it before.

I had all the tests drawn with my first born. It tests for the likelihood of spina bifida and Down syndrome. The only problem is that there are a lot of false positives. My tests came back positive which was nerve racking but when I went in for an in depth scan everything looked great. I just knew that if something was wrong that I wanted to know as early as possible so I could prepare myself and my family and learn as much as I could about the problem.

They test for all kinds of things, all with the health of your baby in mind. While it's true, the likelihood of false positives is fairly high, why not have that extra piece of mind?

I declined all the extra testing except the growth scans and glucose tests. Most of the blood tests have been proven wrong and cause a bunch of extra stress that isn't needed. Plus some insurance companies won't pay for them

I took the test called panoramic panel that tested for everything and also found out that I was having a girl

I did. It's a part of the whole screening for abnormalities. I had it done at this last appt.

I did not get this test. At 20 weeks the ultrasound technician was able to see how the spine was developing from a sonogram photo.

I took my test at 16 weeks... Yes its normal.. It test for Spinal Bilfada, down syndrome and something else
