Do you ever doubt who is really benefiting from your charitable donations?

Question

I've been donating to my friends charity which provides medical, dental and humanitarian aid for orphans in the Iraq and Syria, however my mother is always putting it in my head that my donation are somehow ending up in the hands of terrorists.

I know for a fact that's not the case here as I have personally been over there myself to help out in the last year.

Absolutely. I've seen too many first hand stories on how people get filthy rich off of charities. I donate and tithe to charities that I know have a 100% to the cause rule.

Definitely - I don't feel guilty walking past mainstream charity workers harassing people for money in shops considering some of their CEO's make $150,000-$200,000+ a years

I only donate material things like clothes and blankets to goodwill, animal shelters and things of that sort. U never know what a cash value will go towards. And things like cancer foundations get soooooo much money. Is it possible they use ALL that for research? I don't believe it. If I were to donate money, it'd be to a place that isn't well known because those are the ones that need it most. I remember as a kid saving up alllll my allowance and doing extra just so I could buy blankets for the spca in the winter. They let me walk around and give the cats and dogs the blankets myself. It was seriously awesome

I literally don't donate anywhere but to my religion it's not required or anything but I know that I have impact on emergency situations etc. Our volunteer doctors and nurses and first aid people are often in several hours before anything else arrives such as red cross. Its kind of the only place I where my money is going where it should

I don't worry about terrorists, I won't give to Oxnam anymore though or a lot of the big ones

I only donate to 2 organizations/people that I know directly. LoveMercy and Global Missions. They put every penny towards whatever you wrote the check for. And promise to never take a thing for themselves. LoveMercy is digging water wells in Africa, and building homes for widows. Global Missions focuses on getting the gospel out, and the money will go to building churches, orphanages, schools, or getting medical supplies.

It's really hard to tell what charity or foundation is legit and actually does what it says they do. I just saw a documentary called 'Poverty, Inc.' that discusses corporations making money off of impoverished areas, but the area may not really need it. It was interesting.

I donate to direct causes, something I believe in. If I want someone to be provided with dental care I will go speak with my dentist about where to donate. I work in a medical repair company, we do missions trips to provide endoscopic procedures in countries that don't really offer them...there's plenty places to donate if you seek the right people.

Only when it's being done through my school. We always seem to be having work done on the school and there's nothing wrong with it. It makes me suspicious.

I don't donate go large charities because I don't believe the money goes into what it should. I donate by helping people I see in need.
