Will you let your child nurse from another woman?

I was discussing when I will return to work with my husband and my concerns about being away for 2-3 weeks at a time because I plan to breastfeed when my MIL said "that's not a problem, we can find someone for the baby to nurse from". As if that is completely normal. I have never heard of it before. Does anyone have experience with this?

They're called wet nurses and the super wealthy used to use them in the old days... Idk how often they're used now! But I personally wouldn't let someone else breastfeed my child. But it's up to you if you're ok with it!

The people saying its disgusting... are sexualizing the breast. It's not disgusting if you are educated on the benefits of breastfeeding and put emotions aside.

I wouldn't be comfortable with it, whether it was a complete stranger or someone I knew. I don't know what goes on behind closed doors and have no idea the things that people consume or put into their bodies. I'd much rather just keep up pumping and freezing.

It depends on who it is...my sister and I are having our babies around a month from each other and I could totally let her nurse my baby and vice versa if either of us ran into problems. Breast milk is a wonderful source of nutrition for a baby, so I wouldn't mind someone giving it to my child if I couldn't, provided that the person is healthy etc..

I'm actually hoping I have enough breast milk to donate to our local nicu, where they're always looking for healthy breastfeeding mothers. 😊

Nope. With another woman you don't know their full medical history or what they're putting in their bodies...and what's eventually ending up in their breast milk. I can control what I put in my body and what is in my milk....so it's my milk or formula...nothing else.

"Wet nurses" 🙄😂 how eloquently put. I know certain slave women were bought solely for the purpose of breastfeeding the children of their masters because the masters wife didn't see it as part of their motherly duties, most of these children were also raised by the same slaves that breastfed them and the slaves were not allowed to breastfeed their own children because they had to provide for masters children. I wouldn't do it because breastfeeding is a form or bonding and will cause your child to bond to a woman that is not their mother in the way only a mother and child should be bonded. If he's concerned with the benefits of breast milk as opposed to formula you can buy donated breast milk and bottle feed the baby.

I wouldn't. Breastfeeding is a bonding time with your child. I wouldnt want my child to bond with another woman.. I'm their mother :/
