Early gender how does it work?

How would I go about to be able to find out what I'm having I'm 23 years old and I'm 12 weeks pregnant would I ask my doctor for a blood test to be done? Would my insurance cover it or would it be out of pocket? How much would it be? Sorry for all the questions lol I just see some friends on Facebook who are about as far as I am and already know what their having due to the blood test?
