Neither myself or my partner smoke and I've told my mum and my siblings who smoke that if they want to nurse my son they need to bring a fresh top and scrub their hand because I don't want my new baby smelling like an ashtray....

To nurse means to breast feed. Did you just mean to hold your newborn?
