Couples Councelling?

Just wondering if couples Councelling has actually worked for anyone? Considering going with my partner ASAP to fix this rocky road. Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! 😊

My husband and I are Christians. I was ready to divorce and we did marriage counseling through our church and then I met weekly with a secular therapist and together those things made such an impact! We're happily married now and handle conflict so much better and truly almost never argue. We still get on each other's nerves and bicker like an old couple lol but not actually arguing. I used to yell and scream and he used to always blow me off or even just leave in the middle of our arguments. Now I don't raise my voice and he puts forth real effort to listen and show that he is. It's been almost a year since we stopped receiving counseling bc we moved and we're doing a lot better. Here we have a tight knit church community and so although we aren't receiving counseling, there's lots of accountability and opportunities to meet with leaders to get counsel and prayer :). 
My one piece of advice is that I've noticed it tends to get worse before better with marriage counseling bc you have to bring up all the cray and issues in order to resolve them. So y'all should commit upfront to stick out the relationship and counseling for at least 6 months before making any decisions. My counselor told me to wait a year before making any decisions and I started crying in front of her and my husband bc I wanted out so bad and look at me now, trying for baby #2! Haha.

One of my girlfriends parents are religious so they went to a church couples counseling and it helped them so much, they had divorce papers ready and it totally helped their relationship.

It really depends on if you both want to save the relationship. Find someone you both like. Do phone interviews.

Couples counseling saved my marriage. But counseling isn't something that you go there and it automatically fixes  everything. Both partners have to want it and try hard and be open minded and willing to communicate.

If both of you are willing to work on the relationship, put in the effort, and choose to stay together it will work. If you go in hoping the counseling will magically fix everything it won't.

You get out what you put in. It gives you a neutral space and a mediator to help the two of you get the tools you need to do the work. But you have to do the work.

Couples counseling can either make you guys realize your relationship is worthy of being saved or if there's too much damage and both people should just move on.. My parents did counseling and ultimately they decided to amicably go their separate ways after 18 years of marriage.
