Icy hot. Possible reaction?

So I am 31 weeks pregnant and have had bronchitis and terrible asthma flair ups for almost 3 weeks now. Well I ended up pulling a muscle in my side around the bra line and right where my arm lies due to coughing. I called the L&D wing and asked a nurse if it was safe to put icy hot on the area and she said it was fine. So my boyfriend and I took a shower together then afterwards he massaged icy hot on it for me. Well by the time I walked out of our room and downstairs to check on our daughter (she's old enough to be unsupervised while we shower just in case you're wondering) I was instantly feeling like my side was being burned. I asked him if he put a thick layer on and he said no. It's still burning and very sore. Not sure what I should do. I put my can of minute maid on it through my shirt and that helped only slightly. My lighting in my living room sucks and battery is too low for flash but it seems only a small spot turned really red the rest is pink-ish
