Mother in Law moving in?

My husband and I have been married for three years. His mom is newly divorced after a 40 year marriage. She is very lonely! Anyways, my husband and I are house shopping. We are considering buying a big enough of a house for she can move in with us. Am I crazy for considering this?! To add, my mother in law is almost 70 and she needs help with day to day things. If she were to move in we would have 5 total dogs. (talk about a zoo!) My hubby and I both work full time and are ttc. Just thinking toward the future it would be nice to have her available at all times to watch the baby, let the dogs out, etc. when we are at work. I need some advice for this huge life decision!! If it didn't work out we could always adjust..my mother in law and I get along very well to add! Thanks in advance!

If she is 70yrs old I wouldn't be counting on her helping to babysit or look after 5 dogs.
Make sure you are making this decision in EVERYONES best interest.

You need to talk to her. It's good that you want to let her in her home because she is getting up there in age. But you just can't assume she will watch the kids and take care of the dogs. She is 70!!

Depends on what kind of relationship you have with your MIL. Personally I'd rather live on the moon than under the same roof with mine! If youre serious about it, maybe find a place with a separate guest house or even a duplex? That way you both get your own spaces but you can keep an eye on her. Later, or if it doesn't work out, you can have a rental property!

I think you all need to sit down and have a discussion about it. Would she be ok with watching a future child? What if you and your husband wanted some alone time? Those are all things you should get out on the table before making a decision.

If she is 70 and needs help with day to day things then she probably won't be the best baby sitter for an infant.  
I personally would not allow my parents or in-laws to live with me unless they had medical issues or were flat broke and had nowhere else to go. There can only be one woman in charge of a house and that woman is me!!! My mother and MIL would both try to take over shit.

I think your being very kind, think when you're 70 and someone did a huge gesture like that for you, she brought your husband into this world and raised him to be the man you fell inlove with, it sounds like you get on, so why not? Your considering to do a very Kind and generous  thing xxx

She is family and she is 70 years old. If you were in her shoes, wouldn't it be nice to have welcoming, loving family to bring you in? Especially after such a long marriage that ended in divorce? You are right; she must be super lonely and probably sad. She can't possibly start over on her own alone at such an old age.

Well I wouldn't rely on her helping out too much but I'd definitely let her move in, given her circumstances. Plus your kids get to have grandma around all the time, that's worth it :)
