First time pill.

So my Gyno gave me the pill and said that I should start the first day of bleeding. I start my period in 4 days, this Saturday, but since yesterday I've been spotting brown old blood (I suppose) should I take my pill now? Or wait? I'm never early so I'm confused.. My period ended last month a day early, also.
