First period after baby!

What was it like for you? Pretty sure I'm starting my first period after like 18 months of not having one. Not sure what to expect. Was it normal or was it like something out of a horror story? Tampons are super uncomfortable now 🙁. Any suggestions for cups? I tried the diva cup but found it so thick and uncomfortable and I don't think I ever got it in right.
