Why did you or will you give your baby a middlename ? for what reason .. i dont understand this .. just wondering 😊

I think of them as a way to use a family name. I'm using my grandmother's middle name for the baby if it's a girl, or my grandfather's first name if it's a boy.

I don't think it's necessary but I love having a middle name. We chose Jade as the middle name for our daughter because that's my sisters middle name and I wanted them to share it. It's just a personal decision for every person, a lot of people choose to not give their child a middle name.

I don't have a middle name and always wanted one so badly growing up! I thought my parents had really short-changed me :)

Now it's just an opportunity to choose two names I love instead of one. Not terribly important but I'm happy that we're doing it.

Middle name for our kids have been for family names. Our first born has my husbands middle name (also it's his fathers first name), 2nd boy has my dads middle name, 1st girl has my old middle name (I took my last name as my middle when I got married). We also use it to show when they are in deep trouble lol

I don't think there's a huge point to a middle name, however I will be giving my baby one. I don't have one and was constantly made fun of in school. My mom says her biggest regret is not giving me one.

Some people don't have a middle name but most do probably for the sake of tradition. But one of my friends has a tradition in his family where all of the men are named William, and their middle names are different, and they go by their middle names. I only knew him by his middle name and I thought it was his first name until he told me his first name is really William lol. And there are other reasons, like wanting to honor certain people in your family. Say you want to name your daughter some name, but also honor your mother and grandmother. In that case the child might have 2 middle names, which isn't uncommon also. If we have a boy, we will be naming him after my fiancé, who is also a Jr, so we will keep the full name with the middle name. If we have a girl, we will give her a middle name just for the sake of tradition and might use a "family name" as her middle name for honor.

That's how I knew I was in trouble growing up. It was the only time my mother used our middle names. 😜
In college my roommate's Dad didn't have a middle name and there were times where he was required to put at least an initial for paperwork to be processed. He always just used J but it was still a pain.
