At what cm dilation is good to get an epidural?

FTM here and I asked my doc at what point would they not administer an epidural & she said "when we see hair" 😂 anyways, what is a good dilation point to get an epi? Does it stall your labor out by hours??

I always get mine at six cm, it never stalled out mh labor but rather picked it up.

I got mine at 5cm and 1hr later I was 10cm. They did dial mine back after 1hr of pushing to help me "feel" how to push better, but I still ended up pushing for a total of 3hrs and had to have vacuum- but I don't know if that had anything to do with epidural or was just how my labor went.

I had been at 2cm then progressed to 3 over 19 hours with pitocin, contractions were unbearable, opted for the epidural and Doctor said if I didn't I could stay laboring for another couple days. 4 hrs later I had my little one, epidural wore off and pushed with feeling then got up to the bathroom shortly after. Epidural I was dead set against and turned out to be a god send!

I mentioned in a meeting with a L&D nurse that I wanted to decide whether I would get one by 5cm. She said I'd be ok to wait until 6 and it seemed like her recommendation.

I got my epidural at 4cm with my first and I think it actually helped my labor be 6 hours since I was having a lot of stress with my in-laws at the time. Some people wait until 6cm to get it.
