Partner from a different country?

Who is in a relationship with someone from a different country than your own? How has different cultures affected you and what was your family's reaction?

My boyfriend is Korean and recently we made the decision together that we want to marry, but I'm a little nervous to tell my family. Not that I don't think he will be accepted, just that it may not be what they expect...

My fiancé is from the US and I'm from Brazil. Believe it or not, we met on Snapchat a year and a half ago. I was 17 and he was 28 at the time. He would tell me "there's no way we can date, I've never done this before, we are too far from each other" and I would agree. But as the time went by, we would call each other on Skype every single night and the feelings were growing so he said "you know what? Screw this. Do you want to be my girlfriend?" and of course I said yes. Since then, he visited me for the first time and met my whole family, I visited him last September to meet his family and when we were in the middle of a bad fight (I was making my bags to go to the airport), he came up to me crying and gave me the ring he was saving to give to me when we completed 6 months of relationship. Obviously I didn't leave. As soon as I got back to Brazil from the US, 4 days later my aunt passed away, I used to live with her and that hurt me deeply. He flew all the way to Brazil to spend only 1 day with me, so he could comfort me. That was 20hrs of flight all together for me, and the next day as soon as he landed he went to work! I think I won the lottery with him, he's everything I've ever asked for. I moved to the US on March and we are getting married, doing all the paperwork. Don't be afraid that your family won't accept him, if you love him truly they'll know and they want the best for you. ❤️

My boyfriend is Romanian, I'm English, and i guess we're pretty different. Their culture is quite old school, whereas I've been brought up very liberally and open minded. Those are the only cultural differences I think. If we were to get engaged I think my family would be very supportive! They love him!

My boyfriend is Korean too and I am from the UK - it's strange because our cultures are totally different but we have so much in common! Lol

He came to stay with me and my family for a month and my parents adore him but I have yet to meet his parents. He says they're pretty conservative and I probably won't meet them until we get engaged 😕 the language barrier might be tough but I really want to be able to at least have a basic conversation with them so I am studying Korean a lot. But my boyfriend always tells me not to stress about it because I'm dating him, not his parents lol

I love the fact that we're from different cultures because we're always finding out new things about each other 😊 it's hard though because we're in a LDR and he's in the military right now 😭😭
even though the future may be difficult (deciding where we will live, get a job raise a family etc) I can't imagine spending my life with anybody else! Everything about this relationship is an adventure haha
