Tell if dilated?

I'm 36 weeks and at my last two appts my doc has just stuck her finger up my cookie and said "nope, not dilated yet can't feel anything" 
This seems... Like an unofficial measurement? Lol idk how else to say it. Does your doc do this? Is it normal?

Yes mine have always done it on #4. A cm is about a finger width so they usually put 2 in and gage that w@y

That's all they do.  I'm 2 cm dilated currently. She said its more based on the doctor so one could tell you 1 cm and another could tell you 2 cm.

I believe so, my doctor has been prepping me for the "cookie measurement" starting at 36 weeks, reminding me since I was 32 weeks.

My Dr  doesn't even check me he just listen for heartbeat and measure and say next week same time kiddo!!!  This it's our 3rd kid so I'm use to him not telling me
