So a comment on a question about creationism vs evolution led me to post this. Before you write me off as crazy, this IS actually a thing! There was recently a debate among some of the most respected scientists and philosophers in the world on this subject. Neil deGrasse Tyson put the odds at 50-50 that we're living in a simulation.

The idea is that an incredibly advanced society (hundreds, maybe billions of years in the future) could decide to run simulations of their ancestors. There is some supporting evidence, such as the huge gap in human and chimpanzee intelligence (despite having 98% of the same DNA), the fact that the universe appears to be based on mathematical laws, etc.

Has anyone else heard of the simulation theory? What are your thoughts?
