Pregnancy and horse riding!?!?

Question

I've had horses all my life but just recently (yesterday) found out I'm pregnant (very early) I've never rode while pregnant before but now I've just rescued a new horses and am wondering if anyone has any words or wisdom or experience in riding while pregnant!?!?

Talk to your doc.  I have heard it's not okay due to danger of falling.  But doc will give you the best recommdation.

Like another poster commented I feel more comfortable with four hooves under me versus my own two feet. I mostly work and train OTTB and youngsters and although I am perfectly okay with riding until term (like my other mother) my husband is shall I say less than supportive. I have had to really work on the new concept that my decisions now and in the future will be more complicated and fully involve taking not only my husbands wishes but our child as well. 
This is the first time in 28 straight years I have not been on a horses' back I longer than two weeks. 😕🐴

I own horses too! I was told not to ride while pregnant because of the horses movements don't take my word for it thats just what I've been told!

As a very experienced equestrian, I would never ride a horse I was not extremely familiar with while pregnant. Things can happen with even a well-seasoned horse like a tripping and falling. I am a top 5 in the world competitor and made the choice not to ride during my pregnancy because even though I've never been hurt in 20 plus years of riding it wasn't worth risking the safety of my baby I tried so hard to conceive.

I got the ok to ride until 12 weeks, when the fetus is still relatively protected by the pelvic girdle. The danger is in falling, not in the general jostling of riding. I know some women who rode their safe horses throughout pregnancy (against dr advice, it should be noted), but since I work with young horses who are more unpredictable I am going to stick to groundwork now that I am through first tri. I usually feel better balanced on a horse than I do on my own two feet 😜 but I've heard that changes as you baby grows and your center of gravity shifts. Hope that helps!
