Why no intercourse?

I've been thinking about this.. The doctor told me not to have any intercourse until the bleeding stopped because my cervix is open and there is a higher risk of infection. But, isn't your cervix open during your monthly cycle as well? So why would I be at more of a risk of infection now than any other time the cervix is open?

Your uterus has just experienced a trauma, your cervix is dilated, which is different from "open". You will likely have small lacerations on your cervix and on your uterus, which will heal with time. No sex, hot tubs, tampons or anything else should be inserted into your vagina for at least 2 weeks, preferably until a doctor had checked to make sure your cervix is closed and healed. It's ultimately a personal decision, but know that there is a risk which could be very serious. If you do decide to have sex, use a condom to be safe.

Sorry for your loss. Did you have a d&c? When i had a d&c my dr said no intercourse for 2 weeks i think. She said since she had been in there with instruments/foreign objects i was more prone to infections and we had to wait for all of that to flush out and heal.

My doctor said 1 week after D&C. I think it's more open after a D&C then during your fertile week. You'd want to wait until it contracts.
