What is a good age to add cereal?

Hi again ladies! 
What's a good age to add cereal? My baby is almost two months and eats well enough. My Husband wants to add cereal to help get more sleep at night. What should I do?

That's actually not a good idea at all. Babies can very easily choke on the cereal, or inhale it into their lungs. Babies can't handle any type of food before 4-6 months (every baby is different and you should try to wait until 6 months, unless baby is showing cues they're ready.) because they don't know if they're full or not. Babies have died from having cereal in their bottles.

The only time it's recommend anymore is in cases with reflux, and then it's very, very specific measurements.

Honestly, though, cereal in your baby's bottle wouldn't help them sleep, anyway. It's just a myth. It seems to work because most people started doing it around the time babies start sleeping longer anyway. Unfortunately, all you can do is feed your baby, and in a month or two baby should be sleeping at least 6 hour stretches. Then, don't be surprised if baby starts waking again at 6-8 months, that's also normal. Right now your baby is going through growth spurt after growth spurt and needs lots of nutrition from her formula (or breastmilk, whichever you're using!)

Adding cereal to milk is proven to lead to obesity and diabetes plus there's nothing natural or healthy about rice cereal. Babies can also choke from cereal added to bottles

It's a choking hazard to add anything to your child's bottle. 2 months is way too young to introduce anything other than breastmilk or formula. Sleeping longer at night is a learned skill and also developmental. A 2 month old should be eating a few times a night still. I would do a lot of research and talk to your pediatrician before introducing solids. You really should wait to 4-6 months but probably closer to 6 so your baby's gut can handle digesting more complex foods.

I started at 6 weeks. My grandma said that's what they did. My son was hungry. Giving him more formula just made him spit it up. So we added cereal. He's a happy healthy baby.

It's up to you. If you add it, don't add a lot and make sure if you put it in a bottle the holes not big enough for the baby to get too much and choke. My son had to have it within weeks of being born due to medical issues and he's a healthy almost 4 year old who is very active and at the weight and height he should be. It's you're decision.

Check with ur pediatrician first. Mine told me he doesn't want my son to have rice cereal period due to all the arsenic in it. He wants us to completely bypass cereal. Babys shouldnt have anything other then breastmilk or formula til they are atleast 4 months old or able to sit up on their own anyway

We've been giving my daughter oatmeal cereal at night since she was about 1 month and has been fine. We started with rice but it upset her belly so we switched to oatmeal and she loves it. Her pediatrician said it was fine. He also said we could add it to all of her bottles but it was too much and she couldn't handle it so we only do it at night. She seems to sleep better. Without it we get maybe 3.5-4 hours at a time. With it we get 6-7 hours. I know many people advise against it but my mom did it with me and I turned out fine. We've also been giving her small amounts of baby food, which she loves. Only about a tbsp a day.

My daughter started at 2 months and then went to fruits and veggies I blended myself and now at 4 months old boycotted baby food and will only eat table food and she actually gums it... It's Sooo cute
