Latch problems? One side only?

My sweet angel is 5 days old. She is EBF and latches perfect on the right side. She never has had any issues at all with it. But the left side she just can't get a good latch on. I've tried everything. My left nipple is so sore and blistered and its excrushiating every time she nurses in the left side. She is constantly latching and unlatchung and gets extra air only on the left side. Anyone have tips????

Thanks guys I just kept pushing through and shed quite a few tears but now she's 9 days old and eating like a champ. It doesn't hurt anymore either! I had a huge blister on my left nipple and one time I unlatched her myself because it hurt so bad every time she sucked and my blister was barely hanging on so I went ahead and ripped it off. It still hurt that day but with that and lots of lanolin every time she nursed, the next day it was a whole new story. Now it doesn't hurt at all. Lanolin is a lifesaver!

We had a smiliar issue when my daughter was first born. It was a bit of a nightmare but we kept at it and now she flawlessly nurses from both sides. Hang in there. It gets better and it is so so so worth the work!

I have the exact same issue. Actually when I went to my daughter's 1st pediatrician appt., she asked to see how she latched. My left nipple seems more flat than the right, which was causing her to have difficulty. She recommended a nipple shield. It did help but be careful of the sizing. The one at the store seemed a bit big for her mouth and I had to get a smaller one.
