Anyone from/live in DC?

I have plans to move to DC late this year, early next year. I am trying to get everything in order now. I have a car but I'm thinking about selling it. Do i really need a car living in DC or can i just use public transportation to go everywhere?

We have a car only because I work all the way in Maryland and the metro doesnt go onto base (where I work). We live in southwest DC and my husband works in northeest DC (Dupont Circle area). He takes the metro (subway) every single day. Its cheap compared to a second car and honestly there is NOWHERE to park unless your employer has free parking for staff or you're ok with paying $20-$40 per day to park in a garage.  I would definitely sell your car. We rent a small studio for $1500/month and pay $150/ month to park our car in the apartment parking. Its crazy expensive to live here, but its not as bad for us because my job pays me specifically to live here. Just as a sibgle woman though, a car would be more hassle. FYI, the metro takes you easily all over DC, some parts of Maryland and many parts of Virginia. Plenty to do for the young and free here! Before I got pregnant we would just walk arohnd town with no plans and always find a new bar or restaurant. In the summer there are outside concerts and random people playing music on street corners. So much to do.

You may want to keep your car. The metro system here has gotten pretty bad over the past few years.

I've been in DC for 5 years without a car and doing just fine! Just make sure you don't live too far from metro or public transportation
