"Mom nipples"

My baby is 6 months old and I EBF. When my baby was born I had some trouble with getting my baby to latch on because my nipples were "on the short side". Over the last few months they have really stuck out and sometimes you can actually see them if I'm not wearing pads in my nursing bra. Once I stop nursing, will my nipples go back to how they were before having a baby? I'm totally self-conscious about them and since summer is coming up I'm afraid to put on a bathing suit in fear of having my headlights on lol.
