When do the National Geographic nipples kick in?

I have pretty small nipples and am wondering if they'll poke out more in the later 2nd or during the 3rd trimester. Worried I'll need shields for baby to be able to breastfeed. Thanks.

I have fairly flat nipples and have never needed a shield nor did my nipples poke out during pregnancy

I would play with my nips for a minute before trying to latch her on, and it helped tremendously. Just enough that they would harden up and on she'd go. First child I couldn't get to latch, second child my nurse suggested that and she latched first time. Mine were flat also.

They do have shields you wear in your bra before you have the baby to kinda train them . my advise dont feed your baby with those shields they use for breastfeeding the baby gets so used to them you'll have a harder time . mine are still flat but will come out when they get hard this is baby #3

My nipples never poked out I don't think they change overly much due to pregnancy or breastfeeding. We required shields because Bub couldn't stay latched
