Dialation Check

I went in today for my 38wk check up. My doctor went ahead and checked if I was dialated. Not dialated but he could feel the head of the baby. Little did I know it was going to hurt so bad. Is it normal to not only be uncomfortable but to be in pain? My appointment was this morning and it's not like 10 hrs later and I'm having pelvic pain and pressure.
