How long does your baby nurse for each session, actual sucking time? Sometimes my LO will only eat for 5 min.

I was feeding our little guy for 20 minutes on each side and my Lactation Consultant told me that is way too long. She said to feed him for 5 minutes, burp him, 5 minutes again and then switch sides. If he still seems hungry after, then feed for another 5 minutes on either side. I tried it and he has been doing great with it so far :-)

10-20 minutes. I do have 5 minute sessions too. They become more efficient and sometimes just snack.

Mine often only eats for 5 minutes at a time. I think it's a combination of her being an efficient eater and preferring smaller/more frequent meals. I try to feed her on one side, change her diaper and then offer the other side to try to get her to take more. As it is, she wants to nurse for 5 minutes at a time every 1-2 hours during the day (her longest time between meals is 5-6 hours at night though). Mine is 6 weeks old.

My six week old will nurse anywhere from 5-20 mins each breast but I have to constantly wake her up almost every time. I burp her in between each breast to try to keep her awake. She eats every 1 1/2-3 hours. She goes longer at night between feelings.

My pediatrician said anything more than 15 minutes per breast is just your baby is using you as a pacifier. My little man was "eating" for 20-30 minutes at first but he has whittled his time down to 10 minutes or so.

Sometime my LO nurse for 5 mins and is knocked out or times its 20 mins.. It totally depends on your LO

My baby girl eats  mins at a time. I was wondering if that was the typical amount of time since she is only 5 weeks. She eats every 2 hrs so I guess it's enough for her.
