Lying about rape?

Question

Hi, I've never been sexually abused before or touched sexually for that matter. But I'm just wondering why girls that get raped lie about it and keep it a secret and not tell anyone.

I don't want to be ignorant at all or rude. I'm just curious as to any reason why.

If you don't tell anyone then won't that rapist continue to be in society and hurting women? I'm just trying to figure out why women don't so if someone knows why or has lied about it, please tell me why.

It's scary, it's hard to talk to about with anyone. 
I hated every part of my body after, down to a cellular level I felt gross.
It's hard to want to speak up when you're afraid and you can't even stand to look at yourself. 
I think a lot of the time most people are afraid to say anything because they fell like somehow even part of it was their fault. The idea of having to see his face again in a courtroom made me want to throw up.

A lot of women are not believed when the do tell so they shut down and swear they will never tell anyone again ever it is a very damaging thing for your psychological self I hope this never happens to you the damage can last a lifetime

For me, my best friend did it to me. I was drunk while she did it, but I still remember. I didn't tell anyone because I didn't want to hurt anyone. When it happened I was a minor, my parents would have been so shocked and hurt and at the time they didn't need another thing to add to all the hysteria going on. Another reason is that she was my best friend, like I said before. I still deeply cared for her even though she had betrayed my trust and my consent. I had told her no multiple times. Im not living in any traumatic state. For a while I didn't even blame her, I blamed myself. I shouldn't have gotten drunk and I should've physically stopped her, I should've done something but I let it happen. I was almost unconscious (that's how drunk I was). I'm not sure why, but I guess I just coped with it well, because it doesn't feel like it really happened. It feels like a vague dream that I remember. I cried about it for a while but I'm okay now.

Because a lot of the time it causes more pain and problems than it's worth. After I was raped, and was covered in bruises and had pictures of the incident because someone in the house took pictures for some reason. I thought I had enough evidence so I finally told someone about a week later but since they couldn't get blood work or samples because it was a week later, they couldn't do anything. So the only thing that happened was my dad thought less of me and turned his back on me, everyone at school saw the pictures and looked at me differently, and both of the rapists got to walk free. So I wish I would've just held it in because it made my life hell after I tried to get help. And that's how it is for most people. It's hard to prove rape so most rapists just get to keep living free.

It's a very traumatizing and psychological thing for someone to deal with. Sometimes the emotions associated with rape are ones of embarrassment, guilt, or shame. So, if someone feels that ashamed, they are most likely going to keep it from people or lie about it when asked. Hypothetically, if you are talking to someone about rape who has been raped, they might feel very vulnerable in that moment and use defense mechanisms against it. Although it is never the victims fault at all, people still tend to blame themselves.

A lot of people don't tell anyone for a myriad of reasons. They are scared, embarassed, might have PTSD and don't want to bring it up, are afraid their attacker will find out and come after them, afraid of family and friends shunning them, they feel TERRIBLE about it and want to try to forget. The list goes on, also you said the rapist would continue to live in the society if no one said anything. This is true, but a lot of times when people DO tell people about their rape, nothing changes. Rapists are rarely locked up statistically 😒 Also a lot of people don't believe them sometimes and court cases have a tendency to go in favor of the rapist.  We need to change this society, and make it a safer place for all victims to talk about their experiences, and be better about punishing disgusting rapists.

I was watching a documentary about the Congo rape is almost normal in that society I hope the world starts to say this is NOT ok it was so bad even people from the UN were caught raping and selling minors into sex trafficking these are the people who are supposed to be helping these poor women and children so who are they supposed to trust as people migrate around the world to excape these situations the rapists are migrating too so we really need to start standing up and saying  NO we will not accept this behavior women are not toys second class citizens or in anyway should be abused by men who think they are entitled to do these horrible things to whoever they want I am really sad this is accepted as oh well nobody cares about people far away kinda out of sight out of mind girls we need to start a revolution we are not ok with this they are war crimes really and children are suffering the most some of them die from their insides being destroyed by these animals IT IS TIME FOR RAPE TO STOP
