Anybody else caught in a name dilemma?!

Question

My older sister passed away when I was 12, and I really really want to use her name for my baby girl. Her name was Karla. So, I want to name our daughter Karla Emery, and she would go by Emery. Only problem is my boyfriend doesn't like the name Karla, which I understand. 😞 He wants to name her Scarlet Emery, which I like too. But the other one is so meaningful. I'm so torn!!
Anyone else battling with name choices?!

What about incorporating Karla into Scarlet and spelling it Skarlet? Or, it sounds like you're both cool with Emery so how about Emery Karla? Or Emery Scarlett Karla? Scarlett Emery Karla is pretty too. Throw a hyphen in between the middle names if you'd prefer.

I love the idea of honoring family members. We had chosen a name for our upcoming little girl, and then the day before Easter my Mamaw passed. It was quick and shocking. I had a flood of emotions after that this baby needed a name change. That's how Cailyn Jase became Carolina Faye. I personally like the idea of putting Karla into the spelling of Scarlet so that you both get a piece in the naming. Good luck to you because it seems like a tough decision to agree on.

Husband and I have both lost a brother, and while I'd use their names, I don't want to use both for one child, and husband doesn't really want to use them at all. So we aren't, at least for this baby. We had fun picking our own name.

I agree with some of the other posters .. Maybe you find a name that honors your sister with out directly using her name.

We are naming out baby Charli if it's a girl after my grandfather who's middle name was Charles. He hated his first name so I know he would be pretty upset if we used his first name. I also thought Charles was kinda old fashion for a boy and do that's why we picked a different name if it's a boy.

If the baby is a boy we are using the middle name Zayne because my husbands grandfathers middle name was Wayne. We both wanted a Z middle name for him because my husbands first name starts with a Z. It's a silly thing but that's how we came up with Zayne and why we are spelling it the way we are.

Honestly, never been a fan of the name but that's not the point. You're honoring your sister & that means more than anything. If you aren't going to go by Karla, I don't think your husband should care. 
I've got quite a few family members named Robert and 3 of them go by their middle names.

My husband is being very difficult! 34 weeks and we aren't close to having a name. I have several that I like but he has only suggested one and doesn't like anything I suggest. If he doesn't start working with me, he's not going to get any say!

We are doing something similar. My mom passed away about a year and a half ago. Her name was Lorri, so my LO will be named Evelyn Lorra. We like the honor of it without it being the same name. My ODD is named after a family friend that died at 16 when I was pregnant with her. Her middle name was Kay, so we named my daughter Eden Kay-Lee, Lee being our family name. My brother died a couple years ago, and my other brother named my nephew after him directly, but changed his middle name. It kinda breaks my heart a bit every time I say my nephews name. It's just a bit too hard for me. 
There's a lot of different routes to go with naming in honor of family is my whole point. I think you guys can find a compromise.

In my husbands family since they are Jewish we honor love ones who past by using the first letter of their name (or full name of approprite). I've always respected this because it means a lot to my inlaws (and probably my husband). Your boyfriend should respect your wishes. Maybe use Karla as the middle name? Parenting is about give and take and know when to pick your battles. This is one battle I wouldn't give in, it if was me. We named our 1st and 2nd after his family, our 3rd after my grandfather raimond (Maddison rai) and DH was happy to do it for me.
