I'm a little scared because I'm not sure what it could be I'm also 8 months pregnant.. Every once in a while out of no where I get this weird flashes of light in my vision and I have to stop everything I'm doing because I can't see anything. What could cause this and how do I prevent it?

You should go make an appt with your primary care provider or at least let your OB know if you're seeing them first.

If you have a way to find out what your blood pressure and blood sugar via fingerstick is, that's what you can do prior to seeing your doctor.

It can be preeclampsia, but I've had those with all my pregnancies and this is the only one that I've had preeclampsia. They told me last time that it was because my heart rate was changing randomly, which was causing the visual issues. It's definitely worth being checked for preeclampsia, but it might be harmless.
