Breastfeeding and Birth control??

Question

Any moms that EBF have any suggestions on birth control? I will definitely do my research because I am due for my 6 week check up next week but I want to know what works for you.. I am very careful what i put into my body while BF so any advice on your experience with birth control would be awesome. Btw this is my second child just my first time BF 😊

Your options are limited because of the breastfeeding. I take a progesterone only pill and haven't had any problems.

It's quite limited... Mini pill, IUD, depo shot, ...that's pretty much it. My dr advised me against getting the mini pill, said a lot of moms complained it affected their milk supply. I ended up getting Paragaurd IUD. Non-hormonal. Didn't hurt to get put in...but.....it didn't go where it was supposed to (you'll have a fu ultrasound to assure its in the right spot). So, I had to go see a specialist who used a camera to physically remove it from my uterus and put it in place. That, was incredibly painful. I honestly don't know if I'll get another IUD after going through all that. Just be aware that can happen!

When I was EBF I took the mini pill it's safe for breastfeeding moms.  I took it for 4 years without any problems!

I don't know if this is available where you are but there's a progesterone only pill called Micronor that you can use while breastfeeding.

I can't have any excess estrogen so I had been taking Micronor for about 5 years before we decided to start TTC. It works by thickening up your cervical mucus. The only downside to this pill is that you have a 3 hour window for which you have to take your pill and you take it everyday, there isn't a week of sugar pills. Also depending on your body, you may not get your period while using Micronor or you may get 2 periods in a month. I would sometimes get 2 a month but my bleeding would always only last 2-3 days.

I had to wait 6 weeks before starting my birth control. I am on the depo shot.

I took the mini pill for 3 weeks but it cut my milk supply almost in half. I even waited until she was almost 4 months old so my supply would be well established.

DO NOT get an IUD. They're so unsafe. So many horror stories. And the depo isn't safe either. I'm on the mini pill and have been doing fine.
