Question about induction

Okay so, I'm due next Thursday and haven't made any progress so I will likely go over that day I was wondering if I can ask to be induced the day after my due date? It would be better that day because my husband is being deployed and that's literally the only time he can be there but I'll only be 40+1 and this is my first baby so I'm not sure if doctors will induce then or if you absolutely have to be over 42 weeks to be induced?
