Period like cramps/aches?

Question

Since yesterday I have had period like aches and cramping on and off throughout the day. It also reminds me of a gas like feeling or that I need to go take a poop...there isnt really a "contraction" or anything for me to time, unlike braxton hicks when i can actually feel the tightening and release of my belly. Is this the beginning or am I just dropping?

I've only gone into labor on my own with my first and I didn't realize I was in labor for several hours, even being past my due date because I was "cramping"! Felt just like menstral cramps, but they progressively got worse and closer together and eventually kept me from sleeping. They eventually got pretty intense and moved to my back as well! I never had any go through my belly, which is what I was prepared for!

However, this time around (baby #3), I've experienced MANY noticeable Braxton Hicks and that is something so new to me. Eager to see how this labor goes!

I've been having this sensation more frequently, too! I wasn't sure if it was Braxton Hicks because I thought those were supposed to be painless. It definitely feels as if my body is shifting, or ramping up towards labor... Just no idea how soon it could be. (I'm at 39 weeks now.)

I had that all last week. I am 39 weeks today. My doctor said yesterday that it's common in the early stages when the cervix is changing to prepare for labor. At my appointment yesterday I was 3cm 90% effaced, I was just 1cm 50% at my last appointment.

My doctor told me the period like cramping is part of Braxton hicks. I didn't know that it could be but I took his word for it! Was hoping it was starting my dilation but so far no luck
