My labor story
So I just thought I'd share what I went through, might answer some questions for some of y'all :)
On Monday at 8am (I was exactly 37 weeks) I had my weekly ultrasound (I get them weekly since 34 weeks since I am on a beta blocker for my fast heart rate) and my fluid was really low, hovering at around a 6, and after 2 donuts and a glass of cold water baby wasn't kicking (she was breathing and her heart rate was good) so my high risk OB decided she needed to come out. Her growth was great and she was measuring a week ahead. So we headed home to grab our hospital bag and then headed to the hospital.
By 9:30am I was in L&D and hooked up to monitors. Baby was tachycardic so they gave me fluids to hopefully calm her down. It was decided that my c section would be at noon (c section is necessary because I have hardware in my right hip joint so my birth canal won't open properly). I was extremely nervous, I've been dreading the c section for months (did too much googling about what could go wrong and I was so scared of dying). Noon came around and they wheeled me into the OR and put in the spinal which didn't hurt too bad but it definitely didn't tickle. I felt my legs start to go numb almost instantly so they laid me down and finished prepping me. When they were ready to start they had my husband come in and sit next to me. He talked to me about random stuff to keep my mind off of what was going on behind the curtain in front of me. What you feel during a c section is really weird...no pain, but a lot of pressure and tugging. It definitely made me anxious but I just talked to my husband to stay calm. Within about 10-15 minutes she was out and I heard her crying, which is an amazing feeling. They held her up so I could see her and then they took her to the corner of the room to clean her off and do her measurements. They let my husband go to where they were doing that and he took a video. Then when they were done he brought her over to me and she laid next to me until the surgery was over, about 20 minutes later. Then they wheeled me into recovery and I began skin to skin and breastfeeding. For the rest of the day I felt no pain, I regained feeling in my legs after about 2-3 hours after the surgery. They put a catheter in at the beginning of the surgery which came out the following morning which is when I really started to feel the pain in my belly. The first time I got up to go to the bathroom (about 20 hours after the surgery) was really hard and painful, but it gets a little easier every time I get up. The only pain med I'm getting is Tylonol #3. I'm not going to lie, the pain really sucks. But hey, I survived and my baby is doing great.
Sorry for the uber long post, but I enjoyed reading stories like this before the surgery so hopefully my story brings ease to someone!
