Plus size? Really?!

Question

I saw an add on starnow (a casting website) asking for plus size models... The requirements being a size 12 AU which I think is a size 8 US.
  
It just makes me really angry to hear that those sizes are considered "plus size". If that's the fact, then what is considered average? And what is considered over weight?

It's twisted and wrong but,  I know the answer 
00-2= extra small 
2-4= small 
4-6= medium 
6-8=large 
8-10= extra large (plus size) 
10+= XXL 
They don't take height and frame into consideration at all.  I've met taller women that wear a size 10 and look fit. I suppose that's why most models are sickly skinny. They're usually tall (5'9" +)  and expected to wear a size 2-4.

I don't know why people get so hung up on sizes. I wish they would just remove them all and women would just buy clothes that fit them well and they felt good in. I feel like so many people want to be "in" a certain size. No one sees that letter or number but you... And you look a lot slimmer in a well fitting size 12 then a crampy size 10.

Those are the sizes in modeling world. Just don't actually apply it to yourself realistically

It's ridiculous to be honest. I pay no attention to all that BS. I saw this one article that showed two pairs of pants from the same store, American Eagle, and they were the same size yet the more recent pair was way smaller!! Size 8 is not plus size by any means. I'm a size 5-7 and I'm tiny. It's ridiculous to think that if I went up another size I would be considered plus size...

Welcome  to the world.  I'm surprised  they started at an 8 US.  It used to be a size 2 or 4 US.

The modeling industry  is what it is.  If u got it, flaunt it!  Take the job .   You will never be able  to change  it sadly

Models at a size 8 are considered plus size. Women's clothing isn't considered plus size until size 14. The American average woman is a size 12. I wouldn't put much stock into model sizing. Are you eating right, taking care of yourself, hydrating and exercising? Done deal!
