Elopement, yay or nay?

I'm leaning toward ls an elopement because of my family.. They are always a stress factor and if my mother takes part in paying for the wedding it will become "her wedding , my marraige"😓 . And we can't afford a big wedding on our own

A semi stressed free day sounds great. We were thinking about eloping to a national park and just paying out for an awesome photographer..

Does anyone somewhat regret ( I know it's a strong word) their elopement ? What would you do differently ?

I don't regret eloping. It's one of the best decisions I've made. My Husband wants to have a marriage ceremony later down the line, but it doesn't matter to me, we're married and that's what counts.

I wish we had! Our wedding was a train wreck. My mom tried to take it over, I didn't get my dress till a week before so it wasn't what I wanted ( simple dress, not a beaded nightmare) & didn't fit right.  I walked into a tree branch right before entering the church.  & 10 min into the ceremony, we had to sit apart & listen to 2 scripture s & a sermon by a priest who wasn't even invited! He made our priest nervous & he for got to tell us to kiss. Should have eloped

We were going to do a destination wedding or elopement for the same reasons, but instead I chose to stand up to my mom and put her in her place. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect, though I won't deny the time leading to it was wrought with disagreements. In the end, do what you WANT and stand your ground on any disagreements. Let your family know that if they choose to try to hold money over your head as a way to get their way, you can pull the plug at any time.
Parents over try to use control to live vicariously through their children - you are not a child anymore so you don't HAVE to give up control. After they lose a few arguments, their motivation to continue will waver and lessen.

Me and hubby Eloped and I don't regret one minute of it. Our whole "wedding" cost about $250 if it was even so much. I would do it again

I want to just have a court house wedding because I have anxiety and the thought of having so many people watching me makes me super uncomfortable. I kinda wanna get married on my birthday in November but I'm still trying to convince my fiancé lol

I think weddings aren't worth it. Destination to celebrate your union without stress is far better

I know exactly what you mean!  I cancelled my own wedding because of my mother in law. Even though we were the ones paying for it she was really pushy and upsetting. She decided that she didn't want my parents at my wedding and even though my family doesn't eat porc that all the food should be made from porc! Every time I tried to explain to her why I want to have chicken instead of porc or why I want my parents at my wedding she would tell me that if I don't do how she wants it then she won't come and she won't let the rest of his family come either! In the end I cancelled my wedding and we got married quaietly. In a way I feel sad that we didn't have that special day but in the same time what kind of wedding would it have been without his family or mine. For us it was the best choice.
