Should twins be born before 39 weeks?

My dr wants my twins to be csectioned at 39 weeks. That sounds ridiculous! I'm 34 weeks and they are measuring 6.9lbs and 6lbs now.  I'm requesting an earlier csection date so I don't have to be caught off guard with an emergency csection. I told the doctors I'm not trying to break a twin weight record at their hospital. I want what's best for my babies!

It depends on your situation. If all is well, my OB recommends 38 weeks to be induced but since twin B was measuring smaller than A, the perinatologist recommended inducing at 36 weeks.  The risk is still born birth if the difference in weight is by a certain amount since twin B's placenta is not working as well and she was having a growth restriction. You do want them to stay in longer for more development if there are no complications.  Twin B is in the NICU due to her weight at birth (3lbs15oz) and has been for a week but has been doing well and possibly will come home this Sunday 😊.  Hope all goes well for you!

I was very, very small while I carried my twins and I carried them to 38 weeks before labor started. I was scheduled for a csection at 39 weeks. I don't see why they should be delivered earlier if there's no reason....

I was told by my specialtist in twins at 19 weeks that with my twins (mono/di) would need to be delivered no later than 37weeks. I also am on watch for placenta previa so that could be another reason why. My doctor said it's common for twins to be delivered 32-37 weeks.

I'm 37 weeks.. Still no sign of labor. 39 weeks is the standard induction week for twins in the state of RI. It seems like most doctors will induce between 38-39 weeks. Totally normal. As far as their sizes go, the growth scan is an estimate. It's never exact. I've seen it be off by a pound or two. I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure your doctor knows what they're doing. My specialist told me that it depends on what kind of pregnancy you have. Mono/mono: 32 weeks, mono/di: 37 weeks, and di/di: 38 weeks. I just scheduled my induction date today! I'll be giving birth July 18 if I don't go into labor before hand. I thought it would be a c section but as of now, both boys are face down and can be delivered naturally! ☺️

I had my final ultrasound today at 36w2d, and my girls weigh almost 7lbs each. They are both measuring a week ahead, but my doctor wouldn't move my c-section sooner. I'm scheduled for 38w4d. I'm super frustrated as he wouldn't give me a reason why not, but then told me my uterus is probably going to give out before then because my babies are already so big! So why not avoid the risks involved with an emergency C if we can reschedule it now?? Ugh.

I was told by my obgyn that at 38/39 weeks they go in and get the babies out if they haven't come before and that most twins end up in a csection. My mom had identical twins(1 vaginal, 1 csection) she recommended not doing that bc it is so much more on your body and the babies. She told me she would have done the csection. My sisters were each almost 6 lbs and they were considered big twins and neither went to the nicu. I'm going to do a csection after speaking with my obgyn and my mom bc she experienced it. If everything is developed in the babies then it should be ok before 39 weeks. 36 weeks is ok for birth even with one baby.

I had twins boys 11 years ago and they wanted to induce labour at 38 weeks but I gave birth to them naturally at 37 weeks. My boys weighed 5lb 13oz and 7lb 1oz. I'm in uk
