Breast pump question????

Should I bring my breast pump when I go into labor? I plan to exclusively breast feed

I never have. In the event something terrible happens and I need to pump, hospitals have them on hand. And really, theirs are better than anything I'll ever have!

I plan on breastfeeding but I'm still brining my pump. My first had to stay under the lamps for bad jaundice nearly the whole time we were there. She wasn't latching well bec we really just didn't have time to work on it since she needed to be under the lamps. I think if I'd have had my pump there with her, we would have benefited greatly. Either way, I want to start my child of breast milk whether he breast feeds or I have to pump it. I want to be prepared either way

Maybe you can call your hospital to ask if they provide them? When we took our hospital tour we were told not to bother bringing ours, the hospital provided them. And, if we did choose to bring our own, we'd be on our own with assembling and figuring out how to use it because the nurses don't have time to train all the patients how to use all the different types of pumps people buy.

I'd bring it with instructions and the nurses or lactation nurse can show you how to use your specific one and get the setting adjusted ect. Even if you plan to breast feed exclusively I think it is good to have them look it over with you.

I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't use mine until baby was close to 4 weeks old. Baby is much, much better at establishing your supply than a pump is.  In the event that you needed it at the hospital, they could lend you one or someone could bring yours for you.

I'm brining mine just in case. It'll stay in the car if it's not needed but I don't want to risk being in a a situation where they give her formula because I didn't have it.

If your hospital will provide access to a lactation consultant at a later time, I'd focus on breast feeding directly while in the hospital and learn to pump later. You might want to bring it though if there is any chance your baby could be born early, in case you need to pump while they are in the NICU.
