Limit on depression meds

So I went to the doc today for my 6 month follow up on My Wellbutrin prescription. He said after 1 year we should talk about weaning off of it & not taking any more. I didn't say anything to him, but I don't really feel comfortable quitting it so soon. It took 6 months to level out and literally pull myself out of a deep depression that I've struggled with for years. My depression is also recurring, I've been on medication 2x in the past 10 years.  I don't really want to have to convince or beg my doc to keep me on it...do I find a new doc or what?
