Sporting/period after miscarriage

So last Wednesday I began spotting. Beginning this Wednesday I started seeing red blood but not a lot, so I counted that as day 1. It's still sporting/red blood but it's not picking up like I have been used to in the past. I took a preg test yesterday and it was negative. Is this normal to have a weird period. I'm not trying to forget our baby just excited to try again.
