Our breastfeeding journey..
I just wanted to share with others out there who may be going through some crazy hurdles during breastfeeding and might want to give it up.
The moment I got pregnant knew I wanted to breastfeed my daughter. I also knew it wouldn't be "easy" but I was determined. During the first weeks home the pain almost made me quit, I tried formula twice and my little girl got so constipated I went back to the breast exclusively. Now she's 4 months old and we are still trucking along.
I had to return to work 6 weeks after baby was born unfortunately, that along with her sleeping threw the night since birth really hurt my milk supply. I was feeding her three 4oz bottles a day while working (5 days a week or more), then had to move to 5oz at a time. I'd only get 2 oz per pumping session, so I was having to pump in the morning while feeding on the other side (kind of like twins) then pump 3 times at work, feed her 2 times after work before she goes to sleep, then pump 1-2 times before bed. I also started waking her 1-2 times through the night to increase my supply. I now have a hospital grade pump loaned from wic and have been able to slowly increase my production with it along with fenugreek supplements, 3 pills 3 times per day (9 pills!). Recently she was also diagnosed with an upper lip tie and tongue tie, which I can't afford to correct at the moment.
Mommas....It is possible to breastfeed! I'm so happy it's been 4 months and through all the hurdles we are still going. My short term goal is 6 months, long term is a year.
