Do you need to burp breastfed babies?

I've heard differing information on this - do EBF babies need to be burped?

My doctor said we can burp him if we want but he won't always burp so it's not necessarily necessary. My little one rarely burps when I try to burp him and usually just burps on his own .. If he burps at all.

Depends, I try to but my baby rarley burps he burps on his own most of the time

I burp mine. I sit him on my lap to do it and he usually burps that way. If he doesn't he spits up more and gets uncomfortable gas later.

Depends I guess , I try to burp every feeding well besides night feeding she in bed with me ( which wasn't planned she just sleeps the whole night that way ) but she eats twice the night but I'm lying by her an she just stays asleep but during the day if I don't burp her she throws up "A lot" if I don't burp her . So I think it's just based on the baby everyone is different try everything an see what works😇

My lactation consultant said only if they seem uncomfortable. 
If they've fallen asleep or close to it during a feed its okay to put them straight to bed. 
Initially I tried burping every feed but it's just wake my LO up and then take us ages to get her back to sleep. Now if she is snoozy I put her in her cot with no issue. 
I think it's one of those things that every baby is different, so do what works for you.

I always try to make my baby burp after each BF. It can be quite annoying if you're stuck trying to make him burp for the first 10 min which  I decide to give up. But you should always try to make your baby burp. Sitting position always seems to work.

I asked the nurse in the hospital when I had my baby and she said yes. He's 2 weeks old now and burps almost every time I feed him so it seems necessary.
