Should I give a bottle?

Question

I think my almost 9 week old is going through a growth spurt. My milk doesn't seem to be keeping up though. He used to only want to eat every 4 hours and now in the evening he wants to nurse more like 2 hrs. And he was only doing one breast and now he's back to downing both of them. Should I give him some of my expressed milk to hold him over after he nurses?

Will that hurt my supply?

I'm so confused because my mom says my body will just adjust to what he needs so I don't know what to do.

Any idea/help?

Listen to your mom, she's right. Anytime he needs to feed, just give him your boob. Your body will respond. Don't do what I did and give the bottle. Especially not if you want to exclusively breastfeed. I'm fighting for my LO's attention against the bottle now because I did that when she was going through her growth spurt.

Best advice I got was 'When you feel like you don't have enough milk - you may not, but bubs is nursing more to increase your supply' - tomorrow your boobs will be rock hard and full! They so this every week or so, and if you can avoid it - don't formula feed. Your body won't make the correct amount of milk and you supply will be affected going forward. Bubs knows what they're doing! Let them nurse as often as they want

The best way to increase your supply is to nurse! Baby knows what he's doing! 😊😊 as for nursing on both sides vs one... Different methods work and I think it depends on your supply. But the majority of women I know breastfeed from both sides each session.

I think every 2-3 hours is on par for 9 weeks too. If you gave a bottle rather than nurse him your supply would likely go down. If you are worried about supply- like you feel empty when he's hungry often, there we many lactation supplements you can take. Fenugreek is a popular one. You have to take a lot for it to work, but it's not too pricey. You can search Amazon to get an idea of what's out there.

Do not give him a bottle! He is nursing to increase your supply. Breastfeeding works as supply and demand. If you supplement you will make less milk and will compromise your supply.

Babies are supposed to eat 8-12 times a day, so 4 hours wasn't often enough. 2 hours seems more normal, except for 1-2 times with a 4 hour stretch. So don't worry, sounds like things are improving.

My baby boy love's to eat and sleep.So I give him bottle and I breastfeed him.He is always hungry.Yes everyone else's advice is very welcomed but you are baby's mom and you know the best what your baby needs.

I just keep putting LO on my boob so she can tell them she needs more milk, they usually catch up pretty quickly, she's never seemed starving

My baby feeds a lot during a growth spurt I don't supplement unless both my boobs are completely empty and he is still hungry if baby is satisfied after eating than don't worry about it it's normal as well as him doing that is letting your body know that he's going to be needing a little more milk and you start producing more
