heavy bleeding a week before AF

Hi so me and hubby have been ttc. My period due on the 22nd. On the 16th (9dpo) I started spotting and thought it was implantation bleeding. On the 17th it became heavier and redder with strong cramps. And today it feels more like my AF. I never had irregular periods and I dont even know what this means.help....
