For real though how did your parents react to you getting married?

My parents are very weird about guys. I know they want the best, but I have the perfect man. Then marriage gets brought up and they all of sudden act like he's just okay when they had absolutely loved him before he said he wanted to marry me!

It may just be something they need to adjust to. My parents were pretty standoffish to my boyfriend once he became my fiancé, but once they saw how happy we were after we got married they chilled out a lot. I got married at 18 so I think they were having some trouble letting go and letting themselves believe that it was going to be okay

My parents didn't seem very excited when my husband and I got engaged or when we got married. It hurt my feelings at first, but then they started hounding me about how we needed to wait LIKE THEY DID, or we weren't ready because THEY WEREN'T READY at our age. I started seeing that they were upset that I was doing everything different than they had planned. Eventually they stopped bugging me, and today I have been happily married for almost 9 months. You know when you're ready. No one can tell you different.

My family was happy and supportive (but i had a son when i was 15 and was now with a great man who worked and was good to me) So they already had grandchildren and i had been a parent for 4 years already. My husbands family weren't as supportive. Acted like my husband would WASTE his life and that when he turned 21 (we got married at 20) that he would want to go out with his friends and drink and party (thats what most of his famiky did and his mother was in jail most of his life so her opinion wasnt one i cared about too much, told her shw wasnt ever there for him as a child to stear him in the right direction so what gives her the right to question his judgement as an adult. She hasnt gotten married yet at that time but then made sure to have her wedding 3 months after ours...think it was some weird competition in her mind lol). BUT I AM SO PROUD TO SAY THEY WERE WRONG. We had lived together for 2.5-3 years before we got married and had dated prior to me getting pregnant (my husband was my first love...my first kiss even lol) Were now on our second year if marriage and are happy as can be. No cheating, no lying, no fighting, he's the greatest thing to happen to me and my son! We are very lucky to have such a wonderful man and male role model in our life.

I was just 27 when we took my parents out for dinner (not unusual), and sitting a cross from them told them we were engaged and we're beginning to plan our wedding.  They say and simply beamed for a moment before getting up to hug their soon to be son in law.

Note:  we had all known each other 8 years already, he was calling my mum "mumsie" the day I met him at their house... and he and I had been dating seriously for 1.5 years already.  So no surprises since they had already heard us talking about home buying and kids.

My grandma raised me and i had 2 kids one at age 16 and another at 19. Soon after my second i left my ex because he wasnt a good bf or father. I met my now husband soon after that and hes been great but when i told my grandma i was getting married she was happy it was with a great guy(he was my brothers best friend for 10 years) and then relieved because she thought i was coming to tell her i was pregnant. I didnt know my real father at the time so i didnt have him at my wedding and i offered to pay for my moms tickets to come to my wedding but she said no which wasnt surprising because she was number 1 in her life. My brother was the man of honor though and my other brother got released from prison 6 months earlier than we expected so he got to come. It was over all a great thing my brothers approved and my grandma did and those were the opinions that mattered most to me.

My family was fine with my husband until we got married. Be glad yours is the other way around because it's not easy dealing with disgruntled family for years on end.
