How do you get your provider to do an early ultrasound?

It seems like some providers will see you early and do ultrasounds. I want to do one at 8 weeks but when I called one doc to make an appointment, they said they wouldn't see me until 10 weeks!! Grrr! Any tips?

10 weeks is normal for almost all providers. It doesn't matter if you change. Most providers only do earlier ones if you're high risk, which it sounds like you aren't. The 10 wk ultrasound is likely for dating purposes. also, to be honest, there isn't much point in doing one earlier unless you may be miscarrying. I know it's frustrating, it was for me my first pregnancy, but there's not much to do but wait and see where your first trimester goes.

It's best for you to stay with the provider you're with and stay on track with appts than change and possibly not be seen until even later since you'd be a new patient.

My OB only does them at 20 weeks unless you are high risk or a medical issue comes up. I had bleeding at 11 weeks with my first and had a scan after that but it turned out that my cervix was just irritated after sex. While I really want an early scan for peace of mind, I also know it can be a good thing not to need one because it means you're in lower risk categories.

I went to the er for bleeding after intercourse and I got a scan at 4 weeks 4d and another around 5 weeks. My first official appointment is at 8 weeks

Had a prior ectopic so Drs clinic put me on their 'urgent' appointment list to get a referral written up. Still not keen on doing one before 6w as I'd like to see a heartbeat, so going to delay scan until then unless I have concerning symptoms. If it's not medically indicated it's kinda a waste of time & money to get early scans, not to mention it ties up resources so those who need them have a harder time accessing them.

I told my OB I had sharp pain on and off on one side. And then they arranged me for an early scan at 5 weeks. Im currently visiting China, and I can get a scan here when ever I want without an appointment and just cost about 40 US dollar, lol.

I had some bleeding about a week and a half ago that's the only reason why I'm getting one tomorrow at 7 weeks!

My doctor does the first at 8 weeks. With my first last year I had one at 6 (severe morning sickness), 8 (originally scheduled), 10 (car accident), 12 (genetic screening), 14 (follow up from accident), 20 (growth scan), 34 & 36 (growth scans since he wasn't growing). So now waiting until 8 with this one is torchure!!!

They will also see you if you are high risk. I've had two miscarriages so my doctor wants me to come in Friday which is 6 weeks. My first pregnancy my original appointment was around 9 weeks but I started spotting around 6 weeks so I had to go in early.
