Still wondering why I got positives

I had a lost in April at 16 weeks , and in May 22 I had nausea and was bleeding a really dark red so I took a preg test. The bleeding was really heavy than usual and doctors said it was the start of my period or it could've been a chemical but they were still unsure and most were leaning towards a period. So I'm confused could this have been left over hormones from my last ? A chemical ? Or period/ something else ?. I did bleed for 7 days like I usually do with a period.
