Morning after pill

So I just started my birth control and my boyfriend and I had sex and he didn't pull out.. we are both scared I could get pregnant and he mentioned the morning after pill. To be honest the idea of taking it freaks me out. I don't know why. There are side effects and it's a lot of money for something that might not work. But then again I'm not ready for a baby. What do I do?
