IUD remove

my mom just spoke to me saying that I might be gaining weight cause of my IUD. I have almost 4 years with it in December I feel like I can wait until next year to take it off. she's saying if I do take it off just to have safe sex & if I wanted another kid that was on me. so I don't know if I should wait? or just remove it to get my period as well, since I haven't had a period since my daughter was born. 3 years & a few months
