My twins birth story
Here is my labor and delivery story:
My water broke at 10:30pm Monday night (6-20), complete surprise!! I had just laid down in bed to watch some Netflix and I felt a gush. Immediately I felt like 😳😳😳, luckily I had a towel on the floor right by my bed and was able to show that between my legs and waddle my booty down to the bathroom. As soon as I sat on the toilet it was just trickling out of me, I put on a pad and went to go wake up my husband to let him know we needed to get going to the hospital. I felt so bad for him, he had just fallen into a deep sleep about 30 minutes before this. He gets up and I'm running around trying to grab a few last minute things when I feel my water running down my leg! I go back to the bathroom and the pad is already soaked through in 10 minutes! I grabbed another pad and I had one of the blue chux so I didn't get any fluid on my leather car seat.
We get to L&D triage, get checked in and the nurse is going to check to make sure it's actually my water. I'm sitting in a pool of it and when she sees this she says the test is just a formality. The test is positive (of course), so they admit me and take me back to a L&D room. Doctor comes in after a while and does an ultrasound to make sure they're both head down, which they were, so we were good to go for a vaginal delivery. Around 5am I decide I want something for pain, so I got some Fentanyl (which is lovely by the way), got checked and was 3cm and fell asleep. Woke up at 6am for shift change, met my new nurse and got another dose of the Fentanyl and fell back asleep until 8:30am. My OB then came in to check me, still at a 3 and she said I could get the epidural at any time. She decided to start Pitocin to get things to progress. Then it came time for the anesthesiologist to come in and go over the epidural process, possible complications and things like that, decided to get it at that time but there were 2 ladies ahead of me so I had to wait a bit. The nurse started the bolus of Pitocin and I got my last dose of Fentanyl. They came back at 9:30am to do the epidural, only a little bit of pain, much better than I was fearing. Got my catheter put in and was checked again, now up to 4cm. By this time it was almost 10:30am and I fell asleep. My OB came back at 1pm to check me and I was 9.5cm!!! She said we'd wait another hour to check me again and see if I was a full 10!! 1pm rolls around and I'm fully dilated!!
So I get wheeled down to the OR to deliver (just in case they need to do an emergency c-section). They get me in, hooked up to the monitors, all IVs set up and going. I'm contracting through all of this and am feeling each one. I start pushing with the RN until the doctor comes over. My husband is holding my right leg and starts to get pasty white and has to sit down. The doctor eventually comes in and gowns up and we keep on pushing on. I pushed for about 2 hours total. Baby A's head became stuck at an angle and couldn't progress any further. I was in so much pain, the epidural had been turned off so I would know when to push. I was in so much pain that I finally had to tell them I couldn't do it anymore. They managed to get me to push for a few more rounds before I was in tears and begging for a c-section. My doctor asked if I was sure and I said yes. So they declared it an emergency c-section and everything just started to go into motion. My husband had to step out while they prepped me, the anesthesiologist began pushing all kinds of meds so I would go numb again. If I didn't get numb, they were gonna have to put me under general anesthesia. Luckily, I was numb within 10 minutes and the doctor started around 4:30pm. My husband got to come back in and sat by me. All the meds made me sick and I started throwing up. All the meds also made me go in and out of consciousness through the whole procedure. I was awake to hear my first son cry at 4:45pm which made me start to cry. Then I drifted off again. My husband got to cut both cords and I drifted off again. I woke up I don't know how long later, still in the OR getting ready to be transferred to post-partum. They tried to give me a baby to hold but I was shaking so hard I almost dropped him, so my husband got to hold both for awhile while they finished with me. On the way to mother/baby, I had both babies laying between my legs. We get to our room and I drift off again. I wake up completely around 8:30pm, still shaking very hard and still unable to hold either of my sons. Eventually the shaking stops and I'm able to hold them and have barely put them down since!!
